Jack is demonstrating his deep, deep joy at the present that cousin Emma sent him. We had a lovely, if busy, Christmas. Christmas Eve we spent with my father, step mother, step sister and her family, as is tradition. Christmas morning we got to spend just us at home, and then hosted an open house in the afternoon for anyone who wanted to come. The following days were spent with trips to Mike’s uncle’s house for lots (and we do mean LOTS) of family, down to Mike’s brother’s home to spend some time with Mike’s siblings and their families, and then up to my mother’s for Deep Midwinter. It was wonderful to see all our loved ones…even if it wasn’t nearly enough time.
The highlight of the whole season may have been driving home from my Dad’s on Christmas Eve. We always stay quite late, and it’s a rush to get home before Santa passes us by. We spend the hour or so car ride looking to see if we can see Santa’s sleigh in the sky. This year, we did!! It was moving quite fast, and had a blinking red light on the front, and though it started quite high, we say it come closer and closer to the ground until it disappered beneath the treeline. We couldn’t believe our luck!! And, even though we hadn’t been asleep and we HAD been watching, Santa still brought us presents while we were sleeping!
